Work orders distributed under housing scheme

All the 17,895 families living in thatched-roof huts in the district will get a pucca concrete houses under the ‘Kalaignar Veettu Vasathi Thittam’ (Kalaignar Housing Scheme) within a year as district administration has converged all the departments and banks to assist beneficiaries in purchasing construction materials at cheaper costs.
In addition to Rs.75,000 offered by both Central and State Governments for construction of houses, each beneficiary, would get Rs.2,500 for construction of toilet under Total Sanitation Programme.
Efforts are also on to provide bank loan under differential rate of interest. Each beneficiary would get Rs.20,000 under DRI. Besides, beneficiaries in SHG groups can use SHG’s internal funds.
District administration would supply steel and cement through government sales outlets.
Engineers in various departments would assist them for quality construction. Brick, sand, blue metal, timber and other materials would be procured in bulk and distributed to beneficiaries at cheaper costs.
Meanwhile, district administration would organise an officials-beneficiary meeting from August 30 to September 4 to know the needs of beneficiaries, based on which an action plan would be chalked out for the implementation of the scheme.
Revenue Minister I. Periasamy, distributed work orders under this scheme to a group of beneficiaries at Pillaiyarnatham village near here on Thursday.
He said that the district received the work orders in the morning and it was distributed in the evening.
Even as the scheduled time for completion of work was six years, all beneficiaries will have concrete houses within a year. Athoor Kamarajar Dam will be a tourist spot, he added.
Briefing new plans, DRDA Project Officer K. Arunmani said that each beneficiary would get around Rs.95,250. The plan would meet needs of every individual. Bulk procurement of raw materials will be cost effective to beneficiary.
1,036 beneficiaries
A total of 1,036 beneficiaries in Dindigul, 943 in Athoor, 925 in Reddiyarchatram, 3,703 in Sanarpatti, 4,179 in Natham, 670 in Nilakottai, 315 in Batlagundu, 709 in Palani, 1,121 in Oddanchatram, 624 in Thoppampatti, 793 in Vedasandur, 1,215 in Vadamadurai 1,359 in Gujiliamparai and 303 in Kodaikanal will have houses.
Later, Mr. Periasamy inaugurated new buildings for panchayat office, library and SHG office and laid foundation stone for new buildings. First work order was given by the Chief Minister on August 15 in Chennai.
