A small town in the Dindigul district of Tamil nadu, Oddanchatram is noted for its large production of commodities such as vegetables, fruits and flowers. Oddanchatram is situated near the Palani Hills at the base of the Western Ghats in South India. It is a small panchayat town in the district of Dindigul in the state of Tamil Nadu. In the normal season about 3000 tons of vegetables are transported from the market to neighboring areas everyday. Between June and December, 5000 tons of vegetables are transported per day.
As far as the transport volume is concerned, about 4000 lorries and 100 bullock carts transport these items each day. The goods transport through rail and roadways is a soaring economic sector in Oddanchatram.
The market transaction hours are between 0700 hrs to 2400 hrs everyday. Having about 130 commission agents, the market caters to states such as Kerala, Maharashtra and places within Tamil Nadu.
