Onam Wishes: happiness and prosperity for all the people of Kerala

With the Malayalam calendar already beginning its phase with the first month called Chingam, the people are all set for this year’s Onam festival which according to the Gregorian calendar falls in the month of August-September or according to the Hindu calendar Bhadon or Bhadrapada.
The famous festival has two every important days which are the Atham on which the famous carnival of onam begins and the day of Thiru Onam on which the festival and the carnival culminates.
The beginning of the ten day long carnival is decided by the position of the stars which is only confirmed once it’s the beginning of the lunar asterism or the famous star constellation called Hastha appears on the sky.
The festival is celebrated with great fun and excitement by the people of the state of Kerala. Since the famous 10 day of this festival falls on the Shravan day, therefore it is also referred as Sravanotsavam.
After the ten days of the carnival it is believed that the famous spirit of the king named Maveli comes to visit the people of Kerala and therefore the people celebrate his coming back and arrange festivities to mark this auspicious occasion. It it’s to celebrate the glory of the golden era of Maveli’s reign that people celebrate the festival of Onam in Kerala.
There has already been an increase in the number of search for the famous onam pictures, onam messages, onam greetings and onam wishes so that the festival this year too is celebrated with the same excitement and gaiety.
On this special day there are many preparations in advance where the people of Kerala prepare handmade flower mats which called pookalam and decorate the front courtyard with them.
Also there is a special exotic meal organized which is called Onasadya where the people along with their friends and family sing, dance and celebrate the occasion.
