Kongunadu Peravai seeks more funds for dyeing industry

The Kongunadu Pothu Thozhilalar Peravai (KPTP), the industrial wing of Kongunadu Munnetra Kazhagam, has called upon the Central and State Governments to release more financial assistance to protect the dyeing industry in Tirupur.
“The grant of Rs. 320 crore sanctioned jointly by the Central and State Governments to offset the project cost of the 20 common effluent treatment plants (CETPs) is not enough considering the size of the apparel industry in the Tirupur knitwear cluster,” KPTP state secretary M. Rajamani told reporters here on Wednesday.
Solution
He also reiterated the need to find a comprehensive solution to the environmental problems encountered in the city owing to the industrial activities.
On the high yarn prices, Mr. Rajamani said that the Central Government should take some drastic fiscal measures to bring down the prices of raw materials, otherwise which, the apparel exports from Tirupur would dip further.
“Further deceleration in knitwear exports from Tirupur will result in job losses and hence, the need to save the sagging sector at any cost,” he added.
